Radiation Science and Technology
The Department of Radiation Science and Technology brings together Radiation Technology (RT) and Biotechnology (BT). This convergence technology will enable the breeding of radiation-induced mutation to develop high value-added products, high functional genetic resources for foods, and drug and bio-resources for environmentally friendly bio-industrial materials. Development of new, high value-added drugs and products will also be achieved by studying the varying reactions of organisms against radiation through the fields of genetic engineering, protein engineering, metabolic engineering, etc. In addition, the Department of Radiation Science and Technology applies advanced radioisotope technology to develop diagnosis-purposed bio-chips and to carry out molecular imaging study and safety assessment for materials. These technologies will be used in bio-industries such as bio-natural substances, functional foods, and medicine. Moreover, the reactions of organisms stimulated by radiation, gene expression regulation and identification of tumor specific markers are focuses of our research.
